If you are community-minded and curious to learn about how you can apply your knowledge and skills to a digital and technological environment, you have come to the right place. Most graduate programmes lock you into a particular role and industry, at a time when you aren’t 100% sure where your career might take you.
The GovTechTalent Graduate Programme gives you the opportunity to experience 2 different roles within 2 different government agencies over the course of 18 months — allowing you to explore a range of career paths and projects in the public sector with a unique digital and technological focus.
Who are we looking for?
GovTechTalent champions diversity in government – empowering digitally-minded New Zealanders of all backgrounds to stand tall and be the voice of their community within the public service.
We place grads just like you in roles ranging from data analyst to project manager to scrum master to policy analyst to developer to UX designer to cybersecurity to cloud specialist, just to name a few options!
We are interested in you as a person and how you can apply your unique personality, skills, experiences, and training to benefit New Zealand’s government.
Think you’re a little outside the box? Might not typically apply for this type of opportunity? We strongly encourage you to put yourself forward because we need people like you to come work in the public sector to represent the diversity that is Aotearoa New Zealand.
What is the programme all about?
Kicking off in February 2024, you will begin the first of two placements. Your first placement is carefully selected for you based on your foundational skills and interest areas, ensuring you are set up for success. In your second placement, you will help select the departments and/or projects you wish to get involved in, refine your existing skills, and become career-ready.
Applicants are not required to have a digital or IT related degree. We are looking for graduates from a range of disciplines who:
To be considered for this programme, you must:
We value your time and have designed a process that will run quickly and provide you with timely feedback.
First step is the application. Update your CV and screenshot or download a copy of your University / Polytech transcript and have these on hand before you start the application, as you’ll be required to upload these into the application.
If you meet the eligibility requirements for the programme, you’ll be invited to complete a video introduction and cognitive assessment. We have this step so that we can hear directly from you about your motivation, ambition, and passion. We aren’t expecting perfection so relax and tell us about yourself. The cognitive assessment is not do or die – give it respect by allowing yourself uninterrupted time and attention to completing it and it’ll be fine.
After the advertising for the role closes and we’ve reviewed all candidates, we will get in touch with you to update you on your status. This will happen right around the middle of August.
For our shortlisted candidates, you’ll be invited to attend our on-site (Wellington) assessment centre. If you’re invited, we’ll be in touch with you to give you all of the details you’ll need and we’ll update you on the day about next steps.
